Edinburgh Airport Limited ("EDI") is Scotland’s busiest airport and the 6th largest in the United Kingdom with 9.8 million passengers in 2013. EDI has a 45% share of the Scottish airport market with its main competitor being Glasgow Airport. EDI is located 12 kilometers (8 miles) west of the city of Edinburgh, possessing a very attractive catchment area. Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland, and within the UK, it is the 2nd largest financial center, has the 2nd highest GDP per capita and is the 2nd most visited city (after London). EDI has a balanced traffic profile evenly split between domestic and international travel with 30% of its traffic being business travel. A GIP-led consortium acquired EDI in 2012.
