Raj Rao
Raj Rao is a Partner at GIP and is based in London.
At GIP, Raj leads the energy and water/waste sectors in Europe. He led GIP’s investment in East India Petroleum Limited and played an active role in the origination and execution of GIP’s investments in London City Airport, International Port Holdings Limited, and Biffa.
Prior to joining GIP, Raj was a Director in the Mergers & Acquisitions team within the Investment Banking Department of Credit Suisse. He worked with clients on a number of complex mergers and acquisitions, privatizations, and financing transactions across the energy spectrum including transactions in the power, water, gas utilities, upstream oil & gas and chemicals sectors, aggregating to $24 billion. Mr. Rao also has had experience working on and completing transactions both in OECD countries (Europe, United States and Australia) and emerging market countries (Argentina, Bulgaria, China, Kazakhstan, India, Romania and Russia).
Before joining Credit Suisse in 2000, Raj was a member of the project finance team within Barclays Capital in London, where he worked on several project and acquisition financing transactions in Europe. Previously, Mr. Rao spent three years within the Asian equity sales team of Kotak Securities (then an affiliate of Goldman Sachs) in Mumbai, India.
Raj is a director of the GIP portfolio companies East India Petroleum Limited, Great Yarmouth Port Company Limited and London City Airport.
Mr. Rao is a qualified electronics and telecommunication engineer. He holds an M.B.A. from Delhi University and a Masters in Finance degree from the London Business School.
