Terminal Investment Limited SA ("TIL") was founded in 2000 to secure berths and terminal capacity for the ships of its parent company, Mediterranean Shipping Company ("MSC"). TIL is now the world’s sixth largest container terminal operator with 30 terminals operating or under construction in major origin, destination and transshipment trade hubs and gateways worldwide. The MSC container ship fleet numbers ~450 vessels and is the second largest container shipping line in the world.

In May 2013, GIP and a group of co-investors closed a transaction acquiring 35% of TIL from MSC. The partnership with MSC is an example of GIP’s core strategy of developing best-in-class joint ventures with industry leaders. In 2014, TIL acquired GIP I portfolio company International Trade Logistics, the owner and operator of a container port and logistics company in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
